It has been 14 years since former city photographer Miklós Szabó passed away on February 13. Imre Gargya said goodbye to her in the Szabadhajdú weekly:
„The treasury collapsed”. I have to pick up Dezső Kosztolányi’s words, to write it down the loss : yes one „treasury” is collapsed. For one moment to the next. We knew Miklós was sick, but despite the successful intervention, his heart could no longer bear the earthly burdens. And what did he mean to whom? A loving child to his parents, a reliable companion to his late wife, a father who cared for his children until the last minute of his life, a grandfather who adored his grandchildren. For friends, acquaintances, students, and former colleagues, he was a person who carried and conveyed values. He considered it important to show others the treasures that were mostly only noticed by his own eyes. The life and career of Miklós Szabó can be an example for all of us. He set the bar high. Due to his illness a few years ago, he survived even the most difficult period with his will to live and unbroken work ethic. In this time not just those people help for him whose around him, but also his photos. Let’s be honest, organizing four decades of crops was a serious and responsible task for him. He has got plans everytime, maybe that's what drove him forward in the gray weekdays.
Miklós Szabó left us a huge legacy. Several decades of Böszörmény’s history documented in photos. Those of us left here have it easy: just have to preserve them. He will no longer be with us on his seventieth birthday. Only in our memory do we recall his figure and his falsely smiling eyes.
